Sindh CM directs Solid Waste Management Authority to improve performance

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah here on Thursday directed provincial Solid Waste Management Authority (SWMA) to improve performance and ordered to activate its complaint cell.   

Presiding over a meeting of SWMA in Karachi, Syed Murad Ali Shah directed  the authority to improve garbage lifting work in the areas assigned to it.

He expressed displeasure over insanitary condition in Malir District and directed that cleanliness work in the holy month of Ramzan would further be improved in all ares of Karachi.

Syed Murad Ali Shah said, “You must activate complaint center to receive complaints against non-sweeping so that they can be addressed.” The chief minister said that he himself would inspect the cleanliness work.

Minister Local Government Saeed Ghani, Chief Secretary Mumtaz Shah, Principal Secretary to CM Sajid Jamal Abro, Secretary LG Khalid Hyder Shah, Secretary Finance Najam Shah and Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shahalwani were present on the occasion.

Last year in November, Earlier, a meeting chaired by provincial Chief Secretary Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah, had decided to launch solid waste management operation in all districts of Sindh.

The Managing Director Sindh, Solid Waste Management Board had informed the meeting that a new legislation regarding the solid waster management will be enacted in the province.

Under the proposed law dumping the waste at residential, industrial areas and public places would be declared an illegal act and heavy fine will be imposed on non-compliance of the law.
