Six die as bus plunges into river in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD: At least six people were killed and 25 others wounded when a passenger bus plunged into river in Samundri city of Faisalabad district on Friday, ARY News reported.

According to police and rescue sources, the bus was on the way to Multan when it suddenly veered off the road and plunged into Rajbagh river in Samandari city, drowning all on-board passengers. The accident occurred after the driver fell asleep at the wheel, they said.

Rescue workers and the residents of the nearby area rushed to the site of the accident and began operation to rescue the drowning passengers. Three dead bodies and over two dozen injured were recovered, rescue officials said.

The deceased and the injured were shifted to nearby health facilities in Samundri and Faisalabad where three more, a woman among them, succumbed to their injuries, increasing the death toll to six.

Following the incident, the bus driver managed to flee the scene of the accident. Police said efforts were underway to arrest the driver.
