Dramatic turn into snatching of mayor Karachi’s vehicle

KARACHI: The issue of snatching of Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhter’s vehicle turned suspicious after discrepancies in information was found, ARY News reported cited sources.

Unidentified men on Saturday snatched Akhtar’s official vehicle at gunpoint in the Defence area. A First Information Report in this regard was lodged after three days of the incident. Investigation agencies including police are thoroughly probing the matter.

“When people were inquired at the site of the robbery, nobody was cognizant of any such incident. There was no eye witness of the incident found in the locality. The investigation agencies and police have started collecting CCTV footages of different nearby routes,” the police sources said.

They said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Arif Alvi’s dental clinic lies in the same area where this incident took place and help of its CCTV footage has also been sought. Since manager of the clinic is abroad, so the CCTV footages of the clinic will be reviewed after he will come back, they added.

According to the mayor, the vehicle’s number was JS-999 and its model was 17/2016, while when the police got information from the excise department it turned out that the vehicle’s number and manufacturing year was different. Contrary to the mayor’s claim, the excise department said, the vehicle was Corolla Altis.

Police sources said the vehicle was being used with private license number plate.

Chauffeur of the vehicle could also be summoned for inquiry.
