Officials of special branch found involved in human smuggling

KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Saturday revealed that officials of police special branch were involved in people smuggling, ARY News reported.

In a raid, the FIA Anti-Human Trafficking Unit arrested a fugitive, Suleman.

The FIA officials said the captured suspect was allegedly involved in human smuggling in collusion with police special branch officials.

They said the suspect would send people to Bangladesh through forgery.

“Police special branch officers used to help the suspect at the airport,” the FIA said.

On January 5 this year, the FIA had claimed to have rounded up two human traffickers from Gujrat.

As per details, the FIA had arrested two agents, who were involved in human trafficking in Gujrat, and recovered illegal passports, fake rubber stamps and other stuff from their custody.

Cases had been lodged against the arrested agents, officials of the FIA had said.

Back in the month of December, 2018, the FIA had arrested seven human traffickers, eleven deportees, and two other persons for trying to travel abroad on bogus documents from Sialkot International Airport.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had summoned interior and foreign secretaries in a case pertaining to human trafficking in the country, especially Punjab where a number of such cases have surfaced lately.
