KARACHI:  A court here on Saturday granted five-day physical remand of six cops for questioning in a case pertaining to the alleged extrajudicial killing of 27-year-old Naqeebullah Mehsud.

SP Investigation Abid Qaimkhani produced sub-inspector Muhammad Yaseen, ASI Allahyar, head constable Hazrat Hayat, Iqbal and two others before the court.

Former SSP Malir Rao Anwar along with fourteen other policemen has been declared as absconder in remand papers.

Qaimkhani informed that the suspects were rounded up yesterday. A case against them had been registered on the recommendation of an inquiry committee formed to probe the death of Naqeebullah in an alleged fake encounter, he added.

He said the suspects have confessed to the crime during initial investigation.

The court directed the IO to submit a progress report on completion of their physical remand.

SSP Anwar, who led the encounter in which the young man was killed along with three others, is believed to have gone into hiding after the registration of the murder case against him.

FIR No 40/18 under sections 365, 344, 302, 109 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act has been registered at the Sachal Goth police station on the complaint of Naqeeb’s father Muhammad Khan against SSP Rao Anwar and his team.
