Sweden, France, Egypt seek UN meeting on deadliest Israeli violence against Palestinians

LONDON: Sweden, France and Egypt have requested an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council to discuss ways to address the deadliest Israeli violence against Palestinians for years, a Swedish diplomat said on Saturday.

“Sweden, France & Egypt request #UNSC to urgently discuss how calls for de-escalation in #Jerusalem can be supported,” Carl Skau, the country’s ambassador to the Security Council, said on Twitter.

“I call on all concerned parties to de-escalate the situation and on moderate voices to speak up against those who try to fuel tensions,” said Nickolay Mladenov, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, in a statement.
