Turbat massacre: FIA nabs key human trafficking suspect

QUETTA: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Sunday claimed to have nabbed a key suspect involved in the trafficking of those killed in Balochistan’s Turbat district.

20 bullet-riddled bodies were found in the Turbat and Buleda areas of Balochistan province over the last five days. All the deceased, hailing from Punjab, were taken to Balochistan by human traffickers with an intention to make them cross over the Pak-Iran border.

Suspect Muhammad Sadiq was arrested following the lead provided by another human trafficking suspect from Quetta, according to an FIA official. The suspect had been handed over to FIA Gujrat for further investigation into the matter, he added.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar has taken suo motu notice of the killing of 20 people in Balochistan’s Turbat.

The Chief Justice has summoned a detailed report on the matter from the Balochistan’s provincial police chief and the director of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) within three days. They are required to inform the apex court about the steps they have taken to prevent such incidents in future.

On Saturday, the bullet-riddled bodies of five men were discovered by the Levies in Turbat district of Balochistan.

Earlier on Nov 15, bullet riddled bodies of 15 men were found in the Gerok area of tehsil Buleda in Turbat district near Pak-Iran border. All the deceased belonged to Punjab province and were kidnapped by a militant organization while trying to sneak into Iran.
