CAREC conference underway in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The two-day Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation conference has been underway on Wednesday in Islamabad, ARY News reported.

According to details, over 200 participants from 10 member countries taking part in the moot. The participants include Pakistan, People’s Republic of China, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

Pakistan’s Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, addressing in the inaugural session of the moot, said that the member countries are exploiting the region’s economic potential by cooperating in several energy and communications linked projects.

He said that the people of the region will benefit from the completion of these projects.

He suggested creation of a regional energy market in order to achieve security in the energy sector.

The finance minister said that Pakistan is also working on the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project to boost connectivity and stimulate economic growth in the region. He said the CPEC provides greater opportunities to the countries in Central Asia, Middle East and Africa.

The minister said that the world has appreciated Pakistan’s economic performance. He said that Pakistan’s economy has moved to stabilization due to the its reforms.
