CM Buzdar directs to establish kidney transplant counters at Teaching Hospitals

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Thursday directed to establish kidney transplant counters at all the Teaching Hospitals across the province, ARY News reported.

Presiding over a meeting of the Human Organ Transplant Authority (HOTA) in Lahore, Usman Buzdar also announced to establish regional offices of HOTA.

He said he would not tolerate unlawful business of human organ transplantation. He said legal action would be taken against those involved in this heinous business.

CM Buzdar directed the relevant authorities to swiftly dispose of the cases of organ transplantation. He warned that delay in files of organ transplantation cases would not be tolerated.

On this occasion, Provincial Health Advisor Muhammad Hanif Pitafi announced to posthumously donate his organs.

“We can save a precious human life by donating our organs,” he said.

In May 2017, the then chief justice of Pakistan Justice (retd) Saqib Nisar had ordered the investigation agencies to join hands against the menace of illegal organ transplants.

Saqib Nisar during suo moto hearing of the case by the Supreme Court had called joint efforts to curb the menace of illegal organ trade.

Police had submitted its report about illegal organ transplants in the court. The report, comprises of 53 pages, had disclosed that several gangs dealing in illegal kidney trade operating in villages of Punjab. The donors had claimed to be relatives of the beneficiary during kidney transplants, the report further said.
