Anti-encroachment drive continues in various parts of Karachi

KARACHI: Several encroachments were razed in an ongoing drive of Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) and Karachi Development Authority (KDA) in various areas of city on Friday.

According to details, the operation that kicked-off in light of Supreme Court’s order in the city has moved to Pehlwan goth, an area of Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Karachi.

During the drive in the area, encroachments over two kilometers were removed by KMC with the help of heavy machinery.

In a separate drive in city’s area of Liaquatabad, as many as 70 illegal shops were demolished by the city district government.

Meanwhile, an operation that was launched in the area of New Sabzi Mandi at Superhighway, was stopped on resistance of the masses.

It may be recalled that after Sindh, the federal government had also filed a separate review petition against on-going anti-encroachment drive in the metropolis.

Governor Sindh Imran Ismail while talking to the newsmen had said, “Federal government has moved Supreme Court to review its decision of launching an anti-encroachment operation.”

Sindh government had also filed a review petition against top court’s ruling of launching an anti-encroachment operation in the city.

According to KMC, as many as 7,183 shops, 8,000 sunshades, five thousands cabins, two marriage halls and other encroachments have been razed, so far in the city.
