In November last year, Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah had chaired a high level meeting to review projects generating electricity from garbage and waste.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Local Bodies, Saeed Ghani, Adviser for Information, Murtaza Wahab and other officials concerned.
Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister had said, 3000 tons of garbage was being lifted from Karachi daily, which was sufficient for installation of a power plant having capacity of producing 50 megawatt electricity.
“Using solid waste, we can establish five power plants having capacity of 50 megawatts each and overall produce 250 megawatts of electricity,” the chief minister was quoted as saying.
