Environmental control committee formed to prevent bridstrike, laser light incidents at airports

KARACHI: A six-member environmental control committee has been formed to prevent the incidents of bird hits and laser lights at airports.

Birdstrike and laser beam are on the rise at airports which may lead to a serious accident, said sources.

The environmental committee of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) will work under supervision of the relevant airport manager. The committee will also include representatives of local administration and Sindh Building Control Authority  to ensure safety and environmental protection, sources added.

Manger airside and senior joint director (legal) would also be members of the committee. While senior joint director (estate) will be its secretary.

The environmental control committee has been established on suggestion of director airspace aerodrome regulations of CAA.

The incidents of bird strike and laser beam have been on the rise in the recent past. Over 300 birds hit aircrafts from 2011 to 2016.
