Everything you want to know about T20 World Cup

Tournament co-hosts India will be out to defend their Twenty20 World Cup title in familiar home conditions next month.

The following outlines the schedule, venues and prize money for the 20-team tournament in India and Sri Lanka, as well as a list of past winners of the tournament which begins on February 7.

Dates

The tenth edition of the 20-overs global showpiece event will run from February 7 to March 8.

It begins with Pakistan taking on the Netherlands.

Teams

The tournament will feature 20 teams, divided into four groups.

Group A

Teams in each group will face each other once in a round-robin format. A win is worth two points and a tie or no result is worth one point each.

The top two teams from each group will progress to the Super 8s, where they will be divided into two groups of four each, and play each other in a round-robin format.

The top two teams from each Super 8s group will progress to the semi-finals.

Games are being staged at eight stadiums, five in India and three in Sri Lanka.

Stadiums in India: Narendra Modi Stadium (Ahmedabad), MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chennai), Arun Jaitley Stadium (New Delhi), Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai), Eden Gardens (Kolkata).

Stadiums in Sri Lanka: R. Premadasa Stadium (Colombo), Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground (Colombo) and Pallekele International Cricket Stadium (Kandy).

The final will be played either in Ahmedabad or Colombo.
