Police arrest 'fake' policemen swindling citizens

KARACHI: Sindh police claimed to have arrested four ‘fake policemen’ who were depriving citizens of their valuables by stopping them in the pretext of snap-checking, ARY News reported.

According to details, Gulistan-e-Jauhar police arrested four impostors, fake policemen who, the police said, used to wear police uniform, act as a fake policemen and stop people on roads for snap-checking and then deprived them of cash, mobile phones and other valuables.

Meanwhile, Gulberg police arrested a street criminal in its jurisdiction and recovered an illegal weapon from his possession.

In Malir, the police arrested four alleged robbers and recovered weapons, snatched motorcycle, mobile phones and other valuables from their possession. They were robbing citizens visiting cattle market in the Malir district ahead of Eidul Azha.

Whereas, Gulshan-e-Iqbal police arrested two robbers within its jurisdiction and recovered weapons and stolen motorcycle from their possession.

Earlier, the police had gunned down four alleged robbers in encounters in different parts of the city on Saturday night.

According to police, three robbers were killed in a shootout in Jangal Goth in close proximity of Gulshan-e-Maymar area.

SSP Malir Rao Anwar said the personnel of the police intercepted the robbers who were robbing citizens visiting livestock market off Super Highway. They engaged the police in shootout. In the resulting exchange of fire, they were killed.

He said their dead bodies have been shifted to a hospital for medico-legal formalities. Illegal weapons, snatched motorcycle and other valuables were recovered from their possession

Whereas, in another encounter, the police said a robber was killed in Korangi’s Zaman Town area and they recovered snatched mobile phones, a motorcycle and other valuables from his possession.

A day before, Sindh Rangers arrested eleven criminals during raids in different areas of the city. According to Rangers spokesperson, the arrested men also include suspects affiliated with a political party and Lyari gang war. He further said that they were wanted to law enforcement agencies in a number of heinous crimes.
