Famous Bollywood director Kabir Khan arrives in Karachi

He has arrived in Karachi to participate as guest speaker at a programme. “I am feeling great to be here in Karachi. I am really enjoying my visit,” he told media here.

“Unfortunately it’s a very short visit. I am delighted to meet people here.”

He said our politics will remain in place and it will go on. “But we need to enhance people-to-people contact at all levels so that it could sideline politics and create more chances of interaction among people.”

 

Directed by Kabir Khan, “Bajrangi Bhaijaan”, featuring Indian superstars Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor, became a smash hit. The spotlight returned to Geeta, a deaf and mute girl stuck in Pakistan and facilitated her return to India.

Geeta, was stuck in Pakistan ever since she wandered over one of the world’s most militarised borders from India more than 10 years ago.

Lost and alone, unable to identify her family or where she came from, she has remained in Pakistan under the care of Edhi Foundation, living in a shelter in Karachi.

After repeated false leads, and thanks to a Bollywood hit and the single photograph — Geeta finally identified her family.

Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan did the wonders for everyone, when it was released. The movie not only received rave reviews from both India and Pakistan, but also won the star a legion of fans in Pakistan as well.

The movie became one of the highest grossing Indian films of all time and managed to highlight the issue of stranded individuals in India and Pakistan.

Kabir and Hafiz Saeed controversy

Another Kabir Khan venture Phantom had caused a controversy in Pakistan and movie was banned for screening across the country for depicting the country as a safe haven for terrorists.

After Phantom‘s trailer was released in Pakistan, the movie’s plot caused an uproar in the country, since it featured an anti-Pakistan narrative. Reacting to the content of the movie, JuD chief Hafiz Saeed filed a petition in Lahore High Court, seeking to ban Phantom from Pakistan.

The ban had irked the cast and crew of Phantom to quite an extent. Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, who plays the protagonist agent who battles Pakistani forces in Phantom, stated earlier that he found it funny how people like Hafiz Saeed could go to court in Pakistan.

Director Kabir Khan had also voiced the same sentiment and said in a statement that he was ‘amused’ at Hafiz Saeed’s action.

Though Phantom did not open up to rave reviews, the Kabir Khan directorial did well at the box office and minted more than Rs 30 crores.
