FBR accelerates drive against tax defaulters, frizzes 4,000 accounts

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has accelerated its crackdown against tax defaulters across the country and recovered tax worth Rs8.2 billion from the tax evaders during a span of three months.

According to FBR officials, bank accounts of over 4,000 defaulters were frozen while 46vehicles of some of them were also confiscated.

They said that 78 properties of the tax defaulters were seized and nine tax evaders were taken into custody from Faisalabad and Peshawar. Some of the tax evaders had been served notices in Karachi and Rawalpindi.

Earlier, Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Muhammad Jahanzeb Khan on March 16 had said that trouble time had begun for tax evaders.

“Just pay the due tax so that you do not have to face any predicament,” Muhammad Jahanzeb Khan had said in a statement.

He had said if tax net was expanded then ratio of sales tax could also be reduced.

Eulogising the business community, he had said the business community ran the economy as well as it provided employments. He said if somebody has paid less tax, he should not be regarded as a thief but he should be given a chance.
