ISLAMABAD: Federal Cabinet in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif approved the proposals for the Federal Budget 2017-18, ARY News reported.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s government will present the fifth budget of its five-year tenure today. The total volume of the next fiscal year’s budget will be 4.8 trillions.
Sharif earlier chaired the parliamentary party meeting of his Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.
He said the government is determined to bring positive reforms in governance despite opposition from various segments.
The Prime Minister said the government is accountable to the people of Pakistan and they will decide as to who delivered and who did not.
Nawaz Sharif said today’s Pakistan is much stronger and stable than the one which the present government inherited with huge problems in 2013.
He said the PML-N Government worked very hard and now everyone can see development projects being completed on a fast pace with utmost transparency and efficiency.
Federal Minister of Finance is likely to propose 20 percent increase in government salaries and pensions in his budget speech in the National Assembly today.
The level of minimum salary will likely to be enhanced to 16000 rupees.
Finance Minister will propose imposition of taxes and duties on around 400 imported items in his budget speech, sources said.
