Trading resumes after fire at Karachi’s PSX brought under control

KARACHI: Trading was resumed at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) after a fire that broke out on the fourth floor of the exchange building in Karachi has been brought under control, ARY News reported on Monday quoting rescue officials.

The fire erupted at around 8am and resulted in some material loss, according to PSX official.

Officials have said that five fire tenders, one snorkel, and a browser were used in the operation to douse the blaze at Pakistan Stock Exchange building.

Following the incident, trading was also suspended at PSX which wnow resume at 12:25pm.

“It is hereby informed that the situation is under control and brokerage firms’ staff has started getting back to their premises,” the PSX said in its notice soon after the fire broke out.

“To ensure smooth reopening of the market for all concerned, the temporary suspension in trading in all securities has been further extended till 12:25 pm today.”

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner South also visited the incident site to review the rescue efforts.

It is pertinent to mention here that Karachi has reported multiple fire incidents in recent months.

In November, a woman suffered burn injuries after a fire erupted in a multi-storey building on I.I. Chundrigar Road.

In the same month in November 2023, at least 11 people had been killed and five others injured when a huge fire ripped through RJ mall situated in Karachi’s Gulistan-i-Jauhar area.
