First ever 'Police Public School' to be established in Punjab

LAHORE: Punjab police is now to establish first-ever police public school to cater the police department, for which the Board of Revenue has approved funds of Rs74.4 million.

The board has sanctioned funds to the Punjab police for purchasing a 12 Kanal plot located in Harbanspura here. The department has issued a letter to the Punjab Police Inspector General (IGP) Captain (retd) Arif Nawaz Khan, notifying him about the allocation of funds that had been deposited for the land purchase.

DIG Operations Dr. Haider Ashraf has said that the school would accommodate around 1,000 students. It will also provide free education to the children whose parents were either martyred, retired or are currently employed, policemen.

“As far as the welfare of the force is concerned, this step is of prime importance,” he said. “Our policemen are unable to afford the exorbitant school fees of private schools. This leads them to withdraw their children from such institutions or force them to adopt unsavory practices to support their families,” he remarked.

A few months ago, police welfare hospital was established at Qila Gujjar Singh, where policemen and their families could avail free medical treatment.

“These steps were meant to improve the welfare of the force. Without the welfare of the force, changing the thana culture would remain a distant dream,” DIG Ashraf said.
