The bodied were unable to be retrieved despite rescue efforts for several hours. The ill-fated youngsters hailed from Jehangira and were picnicking near Khurd in Attock district when the incident happened.

Rescue officials said the youngsters had no prior boat riding experience, and started the boat from the river bank without realising the depth and speed of the water. Then, they attempted to turn the boat when it overturned.

Rescue officials faced immense difficulty to retrieve the bodies due to the speeding water. The operation was halted due to darkness and is expected to be continued next morning.

It may be mentioned that local administration has imposed Section 144 along the banks of the River Indus, after which more than hundred revelers and picnickers have been arrested.
