KASUR: Funeral prayers of two slain protesters, killed in police action, were offered on Thursday amid presence of a mammoth crowd, ARY News reported.
Tehreek-e-Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah (TLYRA) Chief Khadim Hussain Rizvi led the funeral prayers of slain protesters, Shoaib and Mohammad Ali, at College Ground in Kasur.
The prayers were attended by a large number of people including traders, social activists, and political leaders.
Protests in the Kasur were soon erupted after Zainab’s body recovered from a garbage heap, claiming two lives on Wednesday after police resorted to firing in a bid to stop the protesters from surrounding the District Police Officer (DPO) and District Coordination Officer (DCO) offices.
The post-mortem report of slain protesters is expected to be released later today.
Two FIRs have been registered against as many as 16 ‘unidentified’ policemen on the complaints of the slain protesters’ relatives. The FIRs have been registered under murder charges.
To diffuse mounting pressure, authorities also claimed to have arrested two policemen for resorting to firing to disperse the protesters.
CM’s Rs3 million compensation for heirs of slain protesters
Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced Rs3 million as a compensation amount for heirs of the slain protesters.
In a statement, he deplored the firing incident and termed police action unwarranted.
