Gastro claims one more life in flood-hit Garhi Khairo

JACOBABAD: A patient of gastroenteritis dies in Garhi Khairo here in the flood-affected area, ARY News reported on Monday.

The number of dead by contagious diseases at Taluka Hospital Garhi Khairo has reached to seven, hospital sources said.

It is to be mentioned here that in flood emergency situation most of the doctors have been absent at Garhi Khairo hospital. “The hospital have overall 16 doctors, two of them have been absent for long, one doctor on leave and only three to four attend their duties from remaining 13 medics,” according to hospital sources.

Sessions Judge Jacobabad has expressed disappointment over absence of doctors in hospital and directed the medical superintendent to ensure presence of doctors on duty in the hospital.

District Judge has also directed the Civil Judge to visit the hospital daily and submit report to the court about presence of doctors at Garhi Khairo hospital.

In an alarming media report, it was said that over one million people in flood-affected areas of Sindh have been infected by various diseases.

According to the statistics issued by Sindh Health Department, as many as 1,079,000 people were suffering from infectious diseases after heavy rains and subsequent floods wreaked havoc in the province.

For 24 hours, 12,819 cases of asthma and various chest diseases were reported across the province. Moreover, 14,339 cases of skin diseases were recorded in the same period.

The officials recorded 15,844 cases of diarrhea, 2,310 cases of Malaria, 104 cases of dengue virus, four cases of snakebite and 13 cases of dog-bite. Meanwhile, 19,179 people reported with various eye diseases.
