Govt committed to overhaul health, nutritional status of people: minister

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister National Health Services Aamer Mehmood Kiani on Friday said the government was committed to improve the health and nutritional status of its people.

“Health care indicators have always been on the decline since decades as no priority was given to this important subject,” he said while addressing the ‘Health Fest’ event organized by Hashoo Foundation.

He said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government was seriously concerned about the health issues prevalent in Pakistan, and which was why health was one of the top priorities for the present government.

The health minister said that health was top priority of the government and major improvements in this critical area would be visible soon.

He informed that he had written to the finance ministry to enhance tax on tobacco products and sugary drinks which would be utilized to bring improvement in health care.

Aamer Mehmood Kiani said administration of health in Islamabad was scattered and different health organizations and facilities parked in a number of ministries had all been assigned to his ministry and soon the residents of Islamabad would see tangible improvement in health facilities in the capital city.

Vice President Corporate Social Responsibility Hashoo Group Ayesha khan said human capital was the single most critical factor in development and stability of a nation state and health and education were the key factors that measured the status of the human capital of any economy.
