Govt to release Rs10.7bn for signal free Islamabad Expressway project

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Capital Development Authority Ali Nawaz Awan on Sunday said the government was likely to release 10.7 billion rupees for Islamabad Expressway project in the next fiscal year.

“The signal free project has been placed before the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council for approval,” he said while talking to state news agency.

He said the project would be included in Public Sector Development Programme of next financial year after getting Executive Committee of National Economic Council’s approval.

The federal government has released 4.246 billion rupees against third quarter installment of development budget.

This was stated by a spokesman of Planning and Development Department Gilgit Baltistan on Friday.

He said the amount would be released to relevant department for completion of ongoing development projects.

It may be mentioned here that out of 15 billion rupees allocated development budget  for current fiscal year the federal government has released 9. 9 billion rupees so far.

On March 5, Chief Minister Balochistan Jam Kamal had demanded formation of a Supreme Court Commission to probe spending of development budget of the province in the last 20 years.

During a press briefing here, Kamal had said those involved in embezzling development budget should be punished. “We hail the Balochistan High Court for taking suo motu notice on Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) funds”.
