GPS leaves woman stranded on pedestrian bridge in her car

In a bizarre incident, a woman was left stranded on a foot-long pedestrian bridge after following GPS directions in her car. 

The incident occurred around 5:40 pm on January 28th, when the woman, seemingly relying only on her GPS for guidance, attempted to traverse the “Wiang Thong Bridge”.

Unfortunately, the 120-meter-long bridge, originally designated for pedestrian use only, proved inadequate for vehicular traffic. According to the local news, the car had traversed approximately 15 meters before encountering calamity, as the front left wheel became lodged in a gap and abruptly halted the vehicle’s progress.

Fortunately, the driver’s plight caught the attention of passerby Makun Inchan, who quickly notified emergency responders. Recognising the gravity of the situation, rescue teams promptly arrived to evaluate the scene and formulate a strategy for removing the car without causing additional harm to the bridge.

In an interview with an unidentified Thai female driver, it was revealed that she hails from the Nong Muang Khai district and was on her way to visit a friend in Sung Men. Not familiar with the area, she heavily depended on a GPS system to navigate to the specific location her friend had sent her.

The driver disclosed that she was unfamiliar with the area and solely relied on GPS instructions for navigation. However, she asserted that the GPS directed her to traverse the Wiang Thong Bridge, oblivious to any restrictions in place.

“I was focusing on the GPS and did not look around. I thought the bridge was sturdy and likely used by others. When I became stuck, I was so scared because I was in the middle of the Yom River. I was afraid the car might fall into the river, so I got out of the car to seek help,” the woman said.
