Grade-15 official authorized of ordering to shoot a suspect under PPO

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly (NA) of Pakistan has approved the Protection of Pakistan Ordinance (PPO) 2014, after which Grade-15 official can order to shoot down a suspect, while the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) can search out any place without the search warrants – ARY News reports.

According to details, the National Assembly of Pakistan approved the Protection of Pakistan Bill 2014, devised with a purpose to cope with terrorism in the state, which will remain enforced for two years.

Under this law, a Grade-15 or above official can order to shoot down a suspected criminal, while a judicial inquiry will be mandatory in case of killing of a suspect.

Apart from this, cellular data will also be acceptable as evidence. The Protection of Pakistan Ordinance (PPO) has declared several offences as scheduled crimes, which include arson, suicide bombings, killing of Health Department employees, attacks on defence and communications installations and others.

Other than this, any of the security agency will now be able to detain a suspect up to 60 days, for the sake of investigation, while the courts will have the right of monitoring these detainment centers if required.

According to the bill, LEAs will be able to search out a suspected place without any warrants.
