AC extends Hamza Shehbaz's remand for 10 days

LAHORE: An accountability court (AC) has extended the remand of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) stalwart and opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz Sharif for 10 days, ARY News reported.

The politician is facing charges of accumulating Illegal Assets and Money Laundering.

The PML-N leader was produced before the court in foolproof security by the NAB officials as his 14-day remand expired today. Roads heading towards the judicial complex were blocked by placing containers.

At the outset of the hearing, NAB’s counsel said that they could not found tax returns of Rs.20 million adding that Hamza’s two Benami companies have also been found.

“The director of the company was asked to provide details, but he did not despite his promise”, he continued.

The counsel pleaded the court to extend Hamza’s remand for further investigation. The demand was opposed by Hamza’s counsel.

However, the court adjourned the hearing, after extending the remand of the PML-N leader for ten days.

Talking to newsmen on last hearing, Hamza Shehbaz Sharif had lamented the current government and it’s policies.

Talking about the National Accountability Bureau’s investigations against him upon inquiry inside the court, he had said: “The investigators ask me questions and then sit idly by, I urge the court to my 3 month remand to NAB so that their difficulties can be relieved.”

He further added that he was unable to understand what was the anti-graft body trying to achieve and take away from his remand.
