Hanif Abbasi acquittal in ephedrine case challenged in SC

LAHORE: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has challenged acquittal of PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi in the ephedrine quota case in the Supreme Court, ARY News reported on Wednesday.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) division bench had acquitted Hanif Abbasi in the case on October 18.
The ANF had sought time from the apex court for preparation and getting concerned documents of the case.
The Supreme Court Registrar office granted 14 days’ time to the ANF.
The trial court had awarded life term imprisonment to Abbasi in ephedrine quota case.
The LHC division bench comprising of Justice Aalia Neelum and Justice Asjad Javed Ghural set aside life imprisonment handed down to Abbasi by special court and acquitted him.
The PML-N leader was arrested just four days before the general election in the country in 2018. Abbasi was to contest the 2018 general election from NA-60 Rawalpindi.
The ANF had registered the case against Abbasi and others in 2012 under sections 9-C, 14 and 15 of the Control of Narcotics Substances (CNS) Act for misuse of 500kg of ephedrine.
