Happy Birthday to “Boom Boom”

Shahid Afridi was born in Khyber Agency on 1st March, 1980.

He is regarded as one of the biggest hitters of the cricket ball and a thorough entertainer. He has represented several regional and domestic level teams as well including Karachi, Karachi Region Blues, Peshawar Zalmi, Deccan Chargers, Dhaka Gladiators, Habib Bank Limited, Hampshire, ICC World XI, Leicestershire, Melbourne Renegades, Northamptonshire, South Australia and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

Representing Pakistan in 27 tests, Afridi has scored 1716 runs in 48 innings with five centuries and eight half-centuries to his name. His test high score is 156, which he made against India.

The prolific batsman has 8,064 one day runs in 398 matches with an high score of 124 runs. He holds the record of hitting the highest number of sixes in cricket history with a distinct of 351. He once held the world-record of fast century scored when he pummelled 100 ball-ton against Sri Lanka back in 1998.

The all-rounder led Pakistan in the 2011 Cricket World Cup and were knocked out in the semi-final stage of the tournament.

Afridi is currently leading Pakistan’s Twenty20 side. He played a crucial role in the team’s triumph back in 2009. In his T20 International (T20I) career, the batsman has made 1315 runs in his 92 game with the help of four half-centuries.

He has taken 48 test wickets, 395 ODI wickets and 92 T20I wickets while playing for Pakistan.
