High-level meeting discusses Operation Zarb-e-Azb, NAP

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting in the federal capital on Tuesday to discuss varying matters of national interests and reviewed the current status of Pakistan’s relations with its neighbours and strategic partners.

The meeting was attended by the top military and civilian leadership including Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar and Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz along with others attended the crucial meet.

The participants of the meeting deliberated on the current standing of Operation Zarb-e-Azb, Pakistan’s ongoing military offensive against terrorists and terror elements.

Later in the meeting, they also discussed the effectiveness and implementation of National Action Plan (NAP), a map made in 2014 in the aftermath of the Army Public School Peshawar attack when all key political parties in the country nodded in agreement to devise a strategy that could deal with terrorism without losing precious lives.

“The meeting reviewed the bilateral and multi-lateral relations with neighbouring countries, future roadmap for regional stability and maintenance of mutually beneficial relations with all countries in the region and beyond,” a PM’s Office statement said.

The premier emphasised that Pakistan believed in peaceful co-existence with all countries of the region and looked forward to establishing strong and mutually beneficial relations with countries of the region.

‘Peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and economically integrated region must be our shared objective and we must strive for realizing this objective. This could be possible only when we demonstrate a commitment to our aspirations of peace, progress and prosperity,” said the PM.

The Prime Minister said that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is a cornerstone of our own quest for regional connectivity and shared prosperity.
