KHAIRPUR: An incident of roof collapse left two persons dead in Gambat town of Khairpur district, ARY News reported on Tuesday.
According to details, a man Nanak Ram had hired a labourer for repair of his house in Sarafa Bazaar locality of Gambat. The roof collapsed with loud bang during the repair work, people of the neighborhood said.
The house owner and the labourer both were trapped under the debris and died on the spot.
Local people reached at the place and reported to the police about the incident.
Police with the help of local volunteers retrieved dead bodies from the rubble and transferred to hospital.
The bodies after post-mortem were handed over to the families of the deceased.
It was an ancient house built around hundred years ago and was in a dilapidated condition, which could be the cause of the collapse, according to the people of the area.
The incidents of falling down of roofs and buildings claim several dozens lives every year across Pakistan. These incidents mostly happen due to dilapidated structures of old buildings and residential houses. Such incidents happen in abundance during rainy weather when olden structures collapse due to the ravages of rough weather and stormy winds.
