According to the Irrigation Department, the water level at Hub Dam has surged to 338 feet from 335 feet recorded the previous day, leaving only one foot of storage capacity before it starts overflowing, as the maximum capacity of the dam is 339 feet.
The Hub dam’s spillway may be triggered at any moment to release excess water, a routine safety measure overseen by the Ministry of Water Resources, WAPDA, and the Lasbela administration.
Residents living near the Hub River are being told to evacuate before they face any unforeseen situation. Owners of nearby crush plants need to move their equipment and workers away from the riverbanks. Authorities say that waiting too long to leave could be dangerous because of possible flooding.
The Hub Dam, which is about 56 kilometres from Karachi, provides 100 million gallons of water every day to the city and nearby areas in Balochistan. The dam is almost full, with a total capacity of 339 feet. Recent rainfall in the nearby mountains and hilly areas of Balochistan has quickly filled the reservoir.
Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation and have promised the public that they will carefully release water to keep the dam safe and prevent any flooding issues.
