I will not resign as Prime Minister, says Nawaz

PM Nawaz Sharif met with the leaders of opposition parties in Islamabad on Monday including Khursheed Shah from Pakistan People’s Party, Mahmood Khan Achakzai of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam – Fazl (JUI-F)

Dr. Farooq Sattar and Babar Ghauri of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Ijaz-ul-Haq of Pakistan Muslim League – Zia (PML-Z) and Aftab Ahmed Sherpao of Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) were also present in the meeting.

Sharif said that he will not resign as Prime Minister nor will he leave for vacations.

The leaders decided to be united for the supremacy of the constitution, democracy and the Parliament.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has been demanding the Prime Minister to step down from his post as he allegedly won the elections by rigging.

Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chairman Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri, on the other hand, has demanded the dissolution of National and provincial assemblies along with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) as they are unconstitutional. He has also demanded that the prevailing system should be overthrown as well.

PTI and PAT have also vowed that their anti-government protests at Red Zone area of Islamabad will not end till Sharif resigns from office.

It should be noted that the joint session of the Parliament will be held on Tuesday morning (tomorrow).
