PTI emerges as mainstream party after support of Mianwali people: Imran

MIANWALI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan said on Saturday that the youth in Mianwali were first to express confident on him at time when he launched the campaign for corrupt-free Pakistan back in 2002.

Addressing a mammoth of crowd in home constituency of Mianwali city, Khan lamented that no politician had supported him in his initiative against corruption in early days of his political career.

Giving credit to people of Mianwali city, the PTI chief said his party would have never been one of the mainstream political parties without their support.

Coming down hard on Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif, Khan said that Sharif has been failed in bringing reforms in the provincial police department.

“I have been to various areas of the Mianwali district [and] observed the dire need of improvement in police attitude,” Khan asserted.

He said the provincial chief minister has only changed the police uniforms with no other major changes.

In an apparent move to garner support for the upcoming general elections in 2018, the PTI leaders have also accelerated their activities in across the country lately.

PTI chief Imran Khan on Friday held a public gathering in Upper Dir city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In a brief video message, Khan had urged the public to take part in the gathering. “Insha’Allah on Saturday (Oct 28), I will be coming to my city [Mianwali] to hold a ‘mega’ public meeting,” the PTI chairman said.

“Your presence in [the] gathering is highly significant for holding another historic public gathering in Mianwali after three years following the Panama scandal,” Khan added.

The party activists and workers of the PTI kept on rallying across the city on Friday night in an attempt to mobilize masses to attend today’s public gathering.

It may be noted here that Mianwali is also a home constituency of PTI chief. Imran Khan’s father Ikramullah Khan, grandmother and grandfather have also been buried in a graveyard of Mianwali.

Imran has been elected from this constituency in 2002 and 2013.
