Indian court sentences two Mumbai 1993 blasts convicts to death

MUMBAI: A special court on Thursday sentenced two convicts to death and two others to life in jail for their involvement in India’s most deadly bombings, a series of blasts in the financial capital that killed 257 people in 1993, reported Indian Media.
A special Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act court sentenced Tahir Merchant and Feroze Khan, two of the five convicts, to death and Abu Salem and Karimullah to life in jail. Whereas, another convict Riyaz Siddiqui was sentenced to 10 years in jail.
In June, the court had found six men guilty of involvement in the blasts that shook Mumbai more than two decades ago, but one died in prison before sentencing.
Investigators had said the bombs were ordered by absconder Dawood Ibrahim, to avenge the demolition of the historic Babri mosque in north India by Hindu hardliners in 1992, during a period of religious conflict.
