Infant dies from teargas in Rawalpindi


RAWALPINDI: A three-day-old toddler died from suffocation due to heavily fired teargas shelling on Friday in Liaquat Bagh area of Rawalpindi, ARY News reported.

The tot was brought to a local hospital, after his condition worsened and he felt difficulty in breathing, where he could not survive.

Doctor Hafiz Bilal said eyes of the child were swollen and he was facing difficulty in taking breath and later died from suffocation.

Police intermittently continued firing teargas shells throughout the day to disperse workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Awami Muslim League following which a large number of residents and bystanders were affected, while several were admitted to hospital.

AML had announced to hold a rally near Lal Haveli, which was to be addressed by the PTI chairman and AML chief.

Police and local administration did not allow to hold the rally by placing containers and using other tactics.



Chairman PTI Imran Khan condemned the shelling and said he was shocked and saddened by the death of three-day old child due to shelling by the government at Committee Chowk. He held the Punjab government responsible for this tragedy.
