'International Mountain Day' observed today

ISLAMABAD: The ‘International Mountain Day’ was observed on Tuesday with theme ‘Mountains Matter’ across the world.
According to the details, the day is designated to highlight the importance of sustainable mountain development and mountain communities. The ‘International Mountain Day’ is celebrated annually by The United Nations Assembly on December 11.
Different organizations and people held rallies, seminars and programs to highlight the importance of mountain in major cities today across the globe.
The theme of this year, ‘Mountains Matter’ described that how mountains matter for water, disaster risk reduction, food, indigenous peoples and biodiversity.
It is pertinent to mention here that half of our population depending on mountains for water and food but unfortunately the mountains are under threat from climate change, land degradation and other issues.
