Islamabad bar announces judicial boycott after torture over lawyers

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Bar Association on Wednesday announced protest against violence on court officials and lawyers during Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan’s arrest from Islamabad High Court (IHC), ARY News reported.

According to the details, Secretary of Islamabad Bar Association, Rizwan Shabbir Kiani, has announced a judicial boycott and demanded an investigation into the incidents of violence and vandalism at the registry branch of the High Court during former prime minister and PTI chief Imran Khan’s arrest.

Kiani warned the institutions that violate the Constitution of Pakistan to refrain from illegal actions, adding that the judiciary and lawyers are prepared to go to any extent to protect the Constitution and the rule of law.

IHC summons IGP

Meanwhile, Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Aamer Farooq took notice of Khan’s arrest from the premises of the high court and has summoned IG Islamabad, the secretary interior and the additional attorney general.

Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Aamer Farooq has directed govt to inform court immediately who was behind the arrest and in what case has Imran been arrested in.

“Will summon prime minister if a report was not submitted in 15 minutes,” the judge remarked.
