"It is now judges' turn to come under accountability noose"

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar warned on Friday that the practice of taking judges to task has been set in motion.

According to details, Chief Justice Nisar while heading the bench hearing a case pertaining to the High Court’s supervisory role over lower courts, cautioned “the accountability process has begun and now all judges will be held liable.”

The Supreme Judicial Council has been very active, the bench number 1 of Supreme Court wrapped up seven thousand cases, Justice Nisar lauded the council concurrently criticizing the slow pace of judges who only resolve 20 cases.

“People are crying with screams for not getting justice,” the top judge lamented and announced to take action under Article 209 against all those judges who are sorting out less number of cases.

The Lahore High Court appears to be failing in its overseer responsibility, “Why High Courts supervisory committee is not looking after this matter?” Justice Nisar lambasted.

It is pertinent to mention that President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi removed Islamabad High Court judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, on October 11, from his post in the light of a recommendation by the Supreme Judicial Council

The recommendation was sent to President Arif Alvi for approval.

“Mr. Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, Judge, Islamabad High Court, Islamabad had displayed conduct unbecoming of a Judge of a High Court and was, thus, guilty of misconduct and he is, therefore, liable to be removed from his officer under Article 209(6) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973,” reads the document issued by SJC.
