JAFZA certificate declares PM Sharif as chairman of Emirate based company

ISLAMABAD: Controversy surrounds Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif after Panamagate Joint Investigation Team (JIT)’s report revealed he was employed in a Dubai Free-zone Company while serving the highest office in Pakistan.

Submitting a report to the Supreme Court of Pakistan last week, the six-member probing team confirmed that Sharif was registered as an employee with this company till 2014.

The report revealed that he did not disclose this information before running for the highest public office in 2013, terming it breach of the constitution.

His family, however, persistently denied the report and asserted that his employee status was maintained only for visa purposes.

As per the document released, Sharif was chairman of Dubai-based Company – FZE Capital – receiving a salary of AED 10,000 per month.

The JIT findings are based on its correspondence with Jabel Ali Free Zone Authority (JAFZA), UAE. As per the document, Sharif was employed with the company till 2014. He became the Prime Minister of Pakistan for the third time in 2013.

Voicing reservations on Panamagate Joint Investigation Team (JIT)’s findings in its report submitted on July 10, the Sharif family submitted its objections to the Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday moments before the hearing of Panamagate implementation case.

The Sharifs’ legal team has filed the objections in the court, rejecting the report in its entirety. It termed the findings biased, politically motivated and an attempt to tarnish the image of the prime minister and his family while pleading to judges to nullify the report while claiming the investigators worked beyond their mandate.
