LAHORE: PTI leader Jahangir Tareen called on PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi here on Sunday to discuss different issues related to formation of the provincial government in Punjab.

Speaking to media alongside the PML-Q leader after the meeting, Tareen claimed that some PML-N MPAs will vote for PTI candidates in the election of Punjab chief minister as well as speaker and deputy speaker of the provincial assembly.

He further claimed that some leaders of the PML-N are also in touch with him.

Tareen reiterated that the PTI government in Punjab will strengthen institutions and work for the betterment of the people of the province.

“Efforts are afoot to introduce a system which strengthens institutions instead of weakening them,” he said adding that the provincial government will do work which has never been done in the history of Punjab.

He vowed to introduce a new local government system and devolve powers to the lower tiers of the government.

Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi told the media that the matters pertaining to local government and the election of speaker and deputy speaker of the Punjab Assembly came under discussion.

He accused the PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif of ruining the province and state institutions during his stint as chief executive of the province.

He claimed the former CM destroyed the provincial bureaucracy, stripped it of powers and closed schools.

To a question about the party’s nomination for the slot of Punjab CM, the PTI leader said no decision in this regard has been made yet and added the party chief himself would decide the candidate for the position.
