Jamshed Dasti

Jamshed Ahmad Khan Dastiwas born on 15 February 1978 in Muazaffargarh, and is currently the chief of the Awami Raj Party which was formed in 2015.

He was elected to the National Assembly from NA-178 Muzaffargarh in the 2008 general elections on a ticket of the Pakistan Peoples Party but parted ways in 2012.

In 2010, he resigned from the National Assembly for possessing a fake degreeafter which the Supreme Court ordered him to present his graduation degree. He was re-elected in a by-election held in 2010.

In April 2013 Dasti was sentenced to three years for presenting a fake graduation degree during the 2008 election. After being arrested Dasti announced that he would not contest the 2013 elections.

However, the Multan bench of Lahore High Court overturned Dasti’spaving way to contest the elections.  He was re-elected to the National Assembly as an independent candidate in 2013 general elections from NA-177 and NA-178 Muzaffargarh.

He was nominated as accused in a murder case in 2015. He was once against in the limelight for his controversial remarks against gang-rape victim Mukhtaran Mai.

In June 2017, Dasti was arrested for allegedly opening a water canal forcibly in Muzzaffargarhto irrigate the farming lands. He received support from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf but has not joined the party.
