Jamshed Quarters fire deaths: Husband kills wife and kids, claims police

KARACHI: The fire incident that claimed the lives of two children and their mother in Jamshed Quarters of the city, was a planned murder, the police said.

According to ARY News, police officials have claimed that the March 22 incident at a house in Bijli Nagar, was an arson attack committed by the head of family Junaid to marry with a woman in Malaysia.

According to earlier report the fire in the house broke out due to electricity short circuit.

The victims were identified as 35-year-old Shumaila, wife of Junaid, her 11-year-old son, Sufiyan, and five-year-old daughter, Hunaiza.

The police has arrested accused Junaid who was staying in Malaysia for job and returned Pakistan on March 16.

The accused had secretly return to Pakistan and contacted with his wife on March 22 night, according to the police. He asked his wife Shumaila to keep his return secret and promised her that he will take her and children to Malaysia without anyone come to know about it, police said.

According to police, Junaid entered in house from the back entrance. He entered the room where his wife was sleeping with children, sprinkled petrol in the room, sparked fire and fled from the scene, police officials said.

The accused told the police, he had return to Pakistan after the incident, while the investigation suggested that he had return on March 16 and was in Pakistan prior to the deadly fire incident took place.

The accused was in love with a woman in Malaysia and wanted to marry her, police said.

The police will produce the accused in court today.
