Jessica Alba revealed fresh details on Friday via Instagram regarding the deeper significance of the matching tattoos she and her 18-year-old daughter, Honor, received.
The 45-year-old celebrity shared a black-and-white image of their similar eye designs on their left wrists, which also feature tiny infinity symbols. The image was accompanied by a painting that Honor herself made, featuring a blue eye placed inside a heart, which seems to have served as the inspiration for the ink.
The caption of Alba’s post reads, “Forever connected and protected, my baby girl – I love you @honor__warren.”
The post featured a further picture of Alba grinning while tattoo artist Daniel “Winterstone” Winter took a picture of her wrist, a picture of Honor sitting peacefully under studio lights while Winter started her tattoo, and a short video that provided a closer look at the completed artwork.
The tattoos were completed on Honor’s actual eighteenth birthday, June 7. As a previous Daily Mail article noted, Winter, the proprietor of Winterstone Tattoo Studio, explained the experience, sharing, “It was great giving Honor her first tattoo on her actual 18th birthday, and matching with her mom. I can’t share the actual meaning—I’ll leave that to the privacy of Jessica Alba and her daughter. Tattooing Alba is always a great experience. She is such a kind, lovely human.”
He commented that the final eye design came together collaboratively, stating, “The eye was a combined process we all designed, but in the end, it was my creation that landed as the tattoo. I’ve worked with Jessica many times, and I’m sure there are more to come!”
Eye tattoos, however, are commonly linked to intuition, wisdom, clarity, and protection.
Honor and Alba have long demonstrated their close ties using online platforms. Honor provided a first look at the tattoos back in July through a photo post captioned, “me x mama,” along with infinity emojis.
Additionally, Alba celebrated Honor’s 18th birthday with an emotional note, writing, “As I reflect on the last 18 years, I can honestly say they have been the most profound of my life. You opened my heart and expanded my understanding of love in ways I never knew were possible… You are wildly intelligent, endlessly curious, and I could not be more proud of the young woman you have become.”
She went on, considering her daughter’s transition into adulthood, revealing, “As you step into adulthood, part of me wants to hold you close forever and keep you safe. But an even bigger part wants to watch you fly – to explore this world and discover everything that calls to your soul. And through it all, I will always be here… Whether you need comforting when you’re sick, a hug, or miss home, I’ll jump on a plane to see you – I’m here. Always.”
Following in her mother’s footsteps, Honor has been forging her own career in entertainment. Her 16-minute short film, Unsaid, which debuted on Vimeo on July 2, marked her directorial debut.
She plans to study film and English at Yale University starting this coming fall season.
