Kachho hill torrents surge water level in Manchhar Lake

JAMSHORO: Manchhar Lake water level has surged to RL-114 with rainfall and flooding in torrents and streams in Kachho’s hilly terrain, irrigation department said on Thursday.
“The water of Jhangara, Naing Sharif and Kachho’s hilly streams entering into the Manchhar Lake,” officials said.
Irrigation officials said that the water of Main Nara Valley (MNV) drain is also discharging into the lake.
It is to be mentioned here that the Manchhar Lake has maximum capacity upto RL-133.
Yesterday floodwaters entered residential areas in Karachi after water levels surged in the Malir and Lyari streams with heavy downpour in the catchment areas of Kirthar range and rainfall in the city.
Heavy rains reported in Kirthar mountain range, a natural border between Sindh and Baluchistan.
As a result, the Mol, Khadeji and Jarando streams swelled and feeding water into the Malir stream raising its water level.
Water levels in the Lyari stream also surged after a long time. In low-lying neighborhoods around Malir, floodwaters entered homes, forcing residents to evacuate to safer locations.
The water level increasing in Indus River at barrages with 10,000 cusecs surge at Guddu Barrage, while 40,000 cusecs increase reported at Sukkur Barrage during last 12 hours.
