Carlifter explains how his gang stole 100 cars in just 3 years

KARACHI: Initial investigation from the carlifter gang that was busted by Karachi’s Defence Police last week has revealed much about the mode of operation and number of thefts the gang undertook. 

According to the investigation report, a copy of which was seen by ARY News, the ringleader Kamran Jan Mohammad was arrested a few days ago by the Police and upon his identification, four others including a woman were arrested.

Kamran told the police that he had come to Karachi from Shikarpur and started working as a driver. He then later switched to lifting cars and motorcycles under mysterious circumstances.

According to the report, the accused carried out his first thievery in 2016, lifting a motorcycle from Karachi’s Gulistan e Johar area.

He was arrested and held as a prisoner for four months. When he was released, he stepped up his activities, switching to thieving cars.

The accused told the police that they stole more than 25 cars within the first three months of the year 2019 alone. In three years, the gang also stole nearly 100 motorcycles.

He told the police that all the vehicles stolen from Karachi would be sold off in Balochistan. For every car, the gang used to get Rs. 100,000 to 120,000.

According to Kamran, the gang had kept a woman with them to facilitate the exit of the stolen car from the city and provincial borders, highlighting how law enforcement agencies tend to be less suspicious towards apparent families.

According to police, the gans stole vehicles from Defence, Gulistan e Johar, Clifton and other areas of Karachi though these were the hotspots of their crime.

Police claims since the gang was been busted, no car has been reported lifted from Karachi.
