KARACHI: A Karachi court on Saturday granted bail to a woman accused in a case involving the alleged provision of fake documents to IT workers in North Korea.
The court approved the bail application of accused Aliya Batool and directed her to submit surety bonds worth Rs1 million.
Aliya Batool is accused of providing forged documents online to IT workers in North Korea. The case was registered by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on the complaint of Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the hearing, the prosecution informed the court that the accused, along with others, was allegedly involved in preparing fake documents for North Korean IT workers for use in various activities.
It was further alleged that payments for these documents were received in cryptocurrency, including Bitcoin.
The defence counsel argued that no incriminating material was recovered from the accused’s mobile phone, and claimed that the prosecution had so far failed to present concrete evidence to support the allegations.
According to officials, the case also names two other suspects, Sohail and Sagheer, who are currently facing proceedings in connection with the same investigation.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court approved bail for Aliya Batool.
