Karachi women play Ramazan night cricket despite facility dearth

KARACHI: Cricket enthusiast women in the port city throw the last worry of facility dearth away as they make the most out of what they are offered at Kokan cricket ground amid Ramazan nights — a sacred month otherwise but known for night street cricket to keep fun and fitness in check.

Usually it’s the boys that claim all the space across the humungous city, streets, roads or grounds, but the little oppurtunity women are affroded ends up proving that giving them an equal shot at athletics will spring an abundance of fine talent.

Among the players were the national football team captain Hajra Khan and ex-Pakistan cricket team captain Urooj Mumtaz. Hania Amir and Arijah Haseeb also played in teams who made it to final face off.

Khelo Kricket CEO Hadeel Obaid spoke to ARY News and shared her concept of expanding the tournament base and organizing it more often given the progressive response she sees each year.
