KMC to launch anti-encroachment drive in Karachi’s Rizvia society today

KARACHI: The anti-encroachment drive to be launched on Monday (today) in city’s areas of Rizvia Society and Burns Road, ARY News reported.

As per details, the anti-encroachment cell of Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) during its ongoing drive in the metropolis, initiated in the light of Supreme Court’s orders, will raze illegal marriage halls and other encroachments in Rizvia Society and Burns Road.

“The operation will continue in the inner streets of Burns Road”, said officials of the KMC.

It may be recalled, many illegal shops were demolished at Burns Road yesterday during an anti-encroachment operation.

According to details, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) razed numerous shops, cafes and restaurants which were famous for their signature taste in traditional cuisines.

The makeshift food street and other encroachment were also razed on several locations including near Civic Centre and Expo Centre on Saturday (November 24).

The KMC on November 17 submitted a report to the commissioner Karachi, apprising about implementation on the directives of the Supreme Court regarding anti-encroachment operation in the city.

According to the report, as many as 2500 shops were razed at Empress Market and its adjoining Daudpota Road during the anti-encroachment drive. Similarly 480 illegal shops were demolished in the city’s Sohrab Goth Area. While 150 shops at Sarmad Shaheed Road were also bulldozed.

The top court on October 27 had directed Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar to remove all encroachments from the city’s amenity plots and pavements with the help of law enforcement agencies, and granted a 15-day deadline to city authorities for compliance of its orders.
