ISLAMABAD: Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav’s wife had a suspicious metallic object installed in it forcing the foreign office’s security staff to give her a different pair of shoes for the Monday meeting with her husband in Islamabad, ARY News reported on Tuesday.
According to ARY News correspondent, Foreign Office spokesman clarified that the Jadhav’s wife Chetankul Jadhav was only asked to change her shoes as a metallic object was found inside her shoe sole and the metal detector was buzzing each time she moved out of it.
Sources say security staff could not remove the metallic object in half an hour, the lady was provided with another pair of shoes to meet her husband who is under arrest in Pakistan.
The wife and the mother of alleged Indian spy Kulbushan Jadhav met him for 40 minutes at the Foreign Office in Islamabad on Monday, for 40 minutes while Deputy Indian High Commissioner and Pakistani officials listened in on the conversation outside.
Mr. Jadhav and the family members spoke in a highly secured room, from either side of a glass partition.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs Tuesday issued a statement expressing regret over the way Pakistani side “conducted the meeting” and raised objection over why Chetankul Jadhav’s shoes were not returned.
“For some inexplicable reason, despite her repeated requests, the shoes of the wife of Shri Jadhav were not returned to her after the meeting. We would caution against any mischievous intent in this regard.,” read a Indian MEA press statement.
The FO spokesman maintained that if the Indian concerns were serious, the guests or the Indian deputy high commissioner should have raised them with the media “which was readily available, but at a safe distance, as requested by India”.
He added that Pakistan does not wish to indulge in a “meaningless battle of words” as it is a fact that Jadhav’s mother “publicly thanked Pakistan for the humanitarian gesture”.
Sources say security experts are testing the shoe to determine if the metallic object was some chip, recorder or some other object.
